Building a Timber Frame Barn | Dream Shop Part 1| Posts, Tie Beams, and Knee Braces
Nobody gets to tell me how I build on my property.. I do as I please
There is only 10 things that are illegal.. Moses told us so
My woodmizer is completely portable and takes a half hour to set up. I can easily run it alone. Different tool for a different job.
So why are the ash trees dying? This is still a very impressive feat though, very well done.
REAL NICE SETUP THERE GUYS . THESE GUYS KNOW HOW TO WORK AS A TEAM.
The sheds are cute, I will keep them in mind.
I am currently looking at houses and the vinyl siding seems to warp horribly on top of that.. it is humid down here too so they’re just asking for it. Also found asbestos siding on a house from 1948, held up good, doesn’t warp, but I sure as hell don’t want anything to do with it. I love the information you shared regarding oiling the wood to protect it and the 3-4 feet of metal above ground. Question though, can you do a layer of wood and then the metal roofing? Or do you think that might just trap water and lead to mold, it is very windy and humid where I’m at but I’m curious. Thank you for your knowledge and advice on these though, it’s very interesting.
I assume you are in the southern US? Fortunately there are some great native species in most humid climates that are fairly rot resistant. A lot of our tribe of Barn builders have used cypress and other species in that area with a lot of success. I would recommend joining the BarnGeeks DIY FB group and ask, there are likely to be folks in your neck of the woods who have already built a barn with our plans!
@@BarnGeek Okay, thank you. And yes, I am in South Texas. It’s hard enough getting a home down here but if I can eventually get some land this will be very helpful. Sounds like we might need to build homes in a similar fashion if we can. Went into another home a couple days ago to find mold all over the bathroom and signs of flooding (they hid it VERY well in the photos).
How long do they need to soak before feeding them to the chickens?
After about 2 or 3 days the water will get a little foggy, and it'll start to have a smell. That's when I feed it
Nope sadly. It does work better than this though
Seems to be similar to the Meec 40v sold by Jula, here in scandinavia. But meec is with 14 inch oregon sword.
Good looking structure and will be there for years🤙 Sorry to be nit picky but thus is a post and beam building not timberframe as you used mechanical fasteners and not mortise and tenons...I only know this because I have built both styles.
Thank you for your comment, I appreciate it. Timber frames have contained mechanical fasteners for over 100 years. Only recently has there been an attempt to change the meaning of our terms. Even though, ALL timber frames contain some mechanical fasteners of one type or another, so the designation of "post and beam" is meaningless. Post and beam is a very broad category, timber frames are post and beam, as well as stone henge, even a stud frame is a post and beam. It simply means a beam supported by two or more posts. It would be better to call one a mortise and tenon timber frame and the other a metal plate timber frame.
I've got 4 Hisea shoes /boots. Great product and comfortable and affordable. Ron USCG RET
beams have been made by nailed lumber for years, even 3 2x8's in a garage. Beams were also above an attic floor at one house. It's fairly much a wall, with 2 or 3 rows of 2x12's, both sides. So, in a house built in the 70's, or 60's, the great room, had the beam in the attic ceiling. (So, about 4 or 6 2x12's, with 2x4 studs, that went down and secured the ceiling joists.
Waters going to rot the edge of your board and batten where you flashed it need to go behind the siding and you need ventilation underneath unless you have a vent from your existing cellar
Ni e little mill, quite labour intensive by some standards but looks very well maintained. I'd love to see what they've got in the saw shop, thats the real heart of any sawmill.
Inspectors, for the most part, don't actually know anything. They know little bits and peices to a much larger puzzle that they would have zero chance of putting together. But what do I know, I've only got a couple of different journeyman certificates.
nice
Very smart, all the ash trees in n.y. dying
Why though?
The soil
One year is a long time to wait to geek
Dude... Don't ever start a saw when it's already wedged in your timber....
Makes the Woodmizer look like it's on a walking frame. Love your work boys. Love your work.
Rant all you want brother i.eas going to build a house. No I.van only buy a old house trailer rant on your put voice
Just finished watching the entire series and so many more of your videos. Great information. The main question I would have is what is the difference between just using your screws or the hardware and bolts? I know that the hardware and bolts add to the look but what is the benefit for a pavilion which is what I'm building or one of your larger barns for those that are building a larger two story structure?
The screws are strong, but they aren't strong enough to support the tie beam on a two story structure. This is why we use steel plates and bolts for the joints that require them. It is very important to follow the plans and use steel plates where they are called for.
Your 2x4's and 2x6's are really those dimensions. How nice! Great shed.
Loved watching you build the Timber Frame Barn with your son!
How deep do the holes need to be before putting the 16" square form for top?
Hey I would like to see that video
The shirt!! Haha
Nice work, never be afraid of work. Roll up your sleeves and do your work. Nice clean work area as I like it.
Just use steel Wood sucks squirrel nuts 🥜
Could’ve cut that faster with a hand saw after having to turn it 2636474 times
🎉thank you 🎉
As I know, the gerts are the only thing that works against the majority of the movement
Certainly centeries are 100s of years old.not 100 ?
Thanks. I'm planning dreaming of my new barn in Suttons Bay. Moved up here from Barry County. Ballpark questions.... What percentage cost increases would you say if the sexy post & beam with B&B siding, over ugly modern pole barn with trusses?
could be grubs eating roots. Could be pests. ...could be a lot of things
...id cuddle
Worthless video
Get to the dam point
Crazy to think soil with high nutrients can grow a better tree
4 pairs? So 8 fruits? 😂
Its the Bonitet in the ground.
I think it Mr. Joel Salatin that talks about using hog herds to regenerate barren land quickly. Seems to work well.
Interesting pig slop fertilizer. Lesson learned . Run hogs on your pre- orchard property .
The pig pen probably made the ground really good fertilizer for trees or plants that’s probably why I grew a lot faster and better because it’s planted on natural fertilizer
Same with planting anything in a chicken run. I have taken trees that were half dead, planted them in the run and they grow like they are on steroids.
BTW that young man knows how to cut ( undercut ) I've seen a few " experienced guys get their saw pinched wtg
Impressive cutting that saw seems to be able to do the job
LEAVE THE AMISH ALONE. EXCELLENT MUSIC 👍🤠🇺🇸
